Is this the end for the Almighty David Beckham in the USA?

August 4th, 2008 | What's Smackin'

David Beckhams career coming to an end?

After a lucrative 5 year $250 million contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, numerous endorsement deals including the “David Beckham” Instinct perfume and after shave product line which paid him $13.7 million, and the Beckhams $22 million estate looking over the hills in California, is David Beckham’s playing status for the team in trouble after such a horrible season for the team?

Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Galaxy, made an unannounced visit to the team’s locker room this past week and gave the entire team an ultimatum;
“Get things on the right track in the next two weeks or there will be dire consequences.”

Rumors of consequences flying around include firing head coach legend Ruud Gullit? Cleaning house of players unnecessary expensive due to salary cap issues and costly maintenance. This may start with star Landon Donovan. Firing team president and GM Alexi Lalas also looks liek another option. Thigns are getting rather HOT and UNSTABLE in the team locker rooms.

It looks for now that all of the above mentioned are great possibilities. Leiweke rarely appears in front of the team, but when he does, the aftermath is never good. The AEG boss last addressed the Galaxy collectively last September as the team was similarly struggling, and within two months, former head coach Frank Yallop was out the door.

The Galaxy are winless in seven straight games after L.A.’s 3-2 loss to San Jose on Sunday. Their record is only getting worse. Despite the star power of David Beckham, scoring power of Donovan and striker Edson Buddle, the team defense is just terrible. Their tema is LAST place in MLS in goals allowed per game at 2.11.

According to Sports Illustrated Soccer, >…the reports of unrest keep getting worse and worse as more details emerge about the state of dysfunction within the Galaxy. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the finger-pointing has reached critical mass: Gullit and Lalas reportedly don’t get along and the Beckham camp is quickly calling more of the shots within the organization. (For their part, the Galaxy declined to comment.)

Well worry not about the headline of this news post, the only man who has guaranteed safety is, not surprisingly, Beckham. But there’s plenty of blame to go around.

Sorry to shock you all, especially the buyers of the 250,000 LA Galaxy jerseys that sold before David Beckhams formal introduction to the United States Major League Soccer fans. I wonder how many jerseys have sold till date. David Beckham is here to stay.

Any more Endorsements anyone?

What do you think will happen if David Beckham was dropped from the LA Galaxy and sent packing back to the “Land of the Queen”?
